Prince Harry is Now the Black Sheep of the Royal Family Because of Meghan

The British Royal Family are the custodian of the British culture. They are public property. While they have family wealth, they are the monarchy with the highest political power albeit ceremonially unlike other monarchies like in the Middle East that wields absolute power. So any child born into the lineage of succession to the throne is brought up to be part of several ceremonies and functions for the state and states in the commonwealth. As per Prince Harry, a lot of investment has been made and such a loss to the family is irreplaceable. We can read the pains in the tone of the Queen’s press statements where she categorically stated that these are very trying times.

The royals are a living art and they attract tourists to the United Kingdom annually. The state funds their living and anyone marrying into the family is expected to come and be a part of this living history. While we respect the fact that Prince Harry and Meghan are adults who have the right to live their lives, we must also contextualize their sudden departure from a life Prince Harry has had a lifetime of investment to function as a high ranking member of the royal family.

What Meghan has done is a schism, a disruption to a lifelong plan. It is akin to a lady marrying a president and asking the president to resign so they can live a quiet life. Prince Harry belongs to the Royal family. If she was not cut out for such a lifestyle, best she shouldn’t have gone into the marriage. The fact that people are outraged at the others who are expressing displeasure is misplaced. People’s taxes have been used to bring up Harry to continue in the family traditions only for this to happen.

Prince Harry and Meghan cannot eat their cake and have it. They have been stripped of their royal titles and a transition has been authorized by the Queen. They have been asked to refund all that was spent on acquiring their new home, Frogmore Cottage. This is more like debriefing. We are also witnessing a time when we thought we could have a multicultural royal family but has been shattered by the whims of Meghan. The truth is that the royal family would ensure none of their children groomed into the royal lifestyle will marry a black woman or non-royal to avoid such a difficult situation in the future.
